How to use it
- Set the system volume to about a third. Press Left, then Right: the sound must come from the matching side. If it comes from the wrong side, the cables are swapped (or the balance is wrong).
- Press Both. If one side is silent, see only one side working.
- Run the sweep. A good speaker plays smoothly from a low rumble to a high whistle. Buzzing at low frequencies means a loose panel or a torn cone; silence above some point is the speaker’s limit (small laptop speakers often stop near 300 Hz at the bottom).
Nothing at all?
Most silent computers have the wrong output device selected (an HDMI monitor), a muted browser tab or a Bluetooth device playing elsewhere. Step-by-step: no sound from speakers.

Questions, answered
The slider goes to 20 kHz but I hear nothing above about 15 kHz.
Normal. Adult hearing usually tops out between 12 and 17 kHz, and small speakers roll off before 20 kHz. This is not a hearing test.
Left and right are reversed.
Swap the speaker cables, or correct the balance in your sound settings. Headphones: you have them on backwards (L is marked on the left cup).
